BREIF COMMENTARY ON ALASKA MISSION TRIP 06
I want to thank you so much for your holding me up in prayer on my trip to AK
with Missionary Earl Malpass.
The trip got started a day later than expected because of an airline flight delay for Earl's trip down from AK after driving
his family up.
Because of this we ended up on the wrong side of some really ugly weather.
We took a west track before turning Northwest. We spent a day in Jonesboro, Arkansas because of some more ugly
stuff containing severe weather including tornadoes. After weaving our way through we made it to Sioux Falls, SD. The next day we made it as far as High River, AL, CAN.
We spent another day waiting out very low ceilings and visibility including dangerous icing just in front of us.
The Lord provided a dear family that treated us royally until our departure from High River.
We made it to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory and spent the night.
Our concern the next morning was the 35 below zero temperatures. We waited for things to warm (a relative term) up alittle.
We then took off on our final leg to Fairbanks, AK.
As we turned onto final approach to Fairbanks, the runway was a welcome site.
After clearing customs, bedding down the mission plane we headed to Earl's house where his dear wife Lynn had prepared a
great meal.
Because of all the delays we were not able to get to the finish of the Iditarod.
We did get to another dog sled race in Fairbanks and handed out a good amount of the musher addition of John and Romans.
We worked on getting snow cleared from the Hanger door and outside parking area for planes. We also worked on a borrowed
RV to be used for myself and others that come to help in the Summer.
The RV was used by gold miners, the owner said that we should check the dirty rug for gold before discarding it.
We cut it in sections and beat it out and than panned the dirt. We found gold in every piece. It was not worth much but
we fulfilled our part in doing it for the owner. It was also fun and a learning experience as the owner explained the nuances of panning gold.
We also flew out to Manley Hot Springs, AK to hold a church service.
Well, it was good to get back home to family and friend here.
Thank you again for your prayer support.
